چکیده

Arsenic sorption on mechanically activated minerals such as magnetite Fe3O4 (Kiruna, Sweden) and olivine (Mg,Fe)2SiO4 (Ǻheim, Norway) has been studied and compared in this work. Experiments were carried out with non-activated and mechanically activated samples. The activation of both minerals was performed in a planetary mill at different milling conditions. The specific surface area and consequent sorption activity were enhanced by mechanical activation. The using of olivine seems to be better than magnetite from the point of view of milling time, which is necessary for achievement of the same sorption effect.

EXAFS and HRTEM evidence for As(III)-containing surface precipitates on nanocrystalline magnetite: implications for As sequestration.

Arsenic sorption onto iron oxide spinels such as magnetite could contribute to immobilization of arsenite (AsO3(3-)), the reduced, highly toxic form of arsenic in contaminated anoxic groundwaters, as well as to putative remediation processes. Nanocrystalline magnetite (<20 nm) is known to exhibit higher efficiency for arsenite sorption than larger particles, sorbing as much as approximately 20 ...

Magnetite impregnation effects on the sorbent properties of activated carbons and biochars.

This paper discusses the sorbent properties of magnetic activated carbons and biochars produced by wet impregnation with iron oxides. The sorbents had magnetic susceptibilities consistent with theoretical predictions for carbon-magnetite composites. The high BET surface areas of the activated carbons were preserved in the synthesis, and enhanced for one low surface area biochar by dissolving ca...

Fe-Ni METAL AND MAGNETITE NANO-PARTICLES IN “BROWN” COLOR OLIVINES FROM MARTIAN

Introduction: Recent TEM studies revealed that Fe-Ni metal nano-particles are responsible for the dark “brown” color of olivine in the NWA2737 chassignite, which is interpreted to have formed by reduction of olivine due to heavy shock events [1,2]. Color change of olivine is important to understand the remote sensing data as is the case for space weathering [3,4]. Furthermore, nano-phase Fe par...

Preloading hydrous ferric oxide into granular activated carbon for arsenic removal.

Arsenic is of concern in water treatment because of its health effects. This research focused on incorporating hydrous ferric oxide (HFO) into granular activated carbon (GAC) for the purpose of arsenic removal. Iron was incorporated into GAC via incipient wetness impregnation and cured at temperatures ranging from 60 to 90 degrees C. X-ray diffractions and arsenic sorption as a function of pH w...

Enhanced Recyclable Magnetized Palm Shell Waste-Based Powdered Activated Carbon for the Removal of Ibuprofen: Insights for Kinetics and Mechanisms

A novel preparation method of magnetized palm shell waste-based powdered activated carbon (MPPAC, avg. size 112 μm) was developed. The prepared MPPAC was assessed by several physicochemical analyses, and batch tests were performed for ibuprofen (IBP) removal. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and N2 gas isotherms revealed that magnetite and maghemite were homogeneous and depos...
